Quick update

I appreciate all the emails, phone calls, texts, etc asking for updates and I apologize for not being able to return all of them.  Corbin and I were able to sneak away for a mini-vacation with some friends last week.  I got to hear my favorite sound; Corbin’s giggle/scream of pure glee as he went down the waterslides.   Here’s a quick update on where things stand.

Tomorrow and Thursday I’ll have radiation to my spine.  This will hopefully kill the tumors in the vertebrae and give me some pain relief.  I thought I was having low back pain from the 5” heels I wore to meet Giuliana, turns out it was cancer making a new home in my L5 vertebrae.

I meet with my oncologist next week to discuss my options.  Most clinical trials won’t accept me because I’ve had too much treatment.  The clinical trials that would accept me are Phase I which means it is the first time they’re trying a drug (or drug combo) in humans.  It’s considered “experimental” as they test for dose escalation (how much they can give you), side effects, and efficacy (if it actually kills the cancer).  There are no guarantees that it will even help and none are located near me.  I’m finding it next to impossible to justify traveling for a big “experimental maybe” and spend time away from Corbin and my family.  I am looking in to a holistic 2nd opinion to see what protocol they would recommend.

In the meantime, I’m getting excited to celebrate my favorite nephew’s first birthday!
