I’m back from vacation with a little tan, and back to reality with a crappy scan. Ha, didn’t mean for that to rhyme, but gotta keep humor in all of this. I spent a long weekend in Cancun thanks to a Christmas present from my family. I returned home yesterday afternoon and had to be at the hospital at 6:30 am for scans today. This is the first scan since surgery, so I was a bit anxious to get the results.
The scan showed a new spot in my axilla (arm pit) and my oncologist was able to feel an enlarged lymph node. The best guess is that the cancer spread there just before surgery. The cruel irony…have a major surgery to remove the cancer, then it pops up in an area just inches away. Added to that, the hot spots in the bones are also brighter (meaning more cancerous activity). Obviously not the news we were hoping for. We’re hoping to switch to a daily anti-hormonal pill with daily chemo pill. The doctor’s office is working to try and get the chemo pill authorized since it’s new for breast cancer. I should know something later this week. Please pray that insurance picks up the tab and this is an option for me, we’re not sure what Plan B would be at this point.
I hope to see some of you at the Parkland Hall of Fame induction on Saturday. The game starts at 4 and admission is free.
